Rivian: Golden to Rocky Mountain National Park
Trip to Rocky Mountain National Park to climb Little Matterhorn Peak and drive up Old Fall River Road to the Alpine Visitor Center.
Distance | 176 miles |
Driving Time | 5 hours 13 minutes |
Battery used | 54% |
On this trip we drove up to the Bear Lake Trailhead to go for a hike (Little Matterhorn Peak, it was a fun scramble). After the hike, we drove up Old Fall River Road, a scenic dirt road that takes you to the Alpine Visitor center. From there we drove down Trail Ridge Road and back home.
This trip had a ton of elevation gain, but demonstrates that if you end up in the same spot you started, nearly all losses from climbing are gained back on the downhill. We used 54% battery; with driving in this style (mostly slow speed, some dirt), we would have a range of 305 miles. Note that is above the estimate for our vehicle (276 miles).
On this trip with 5 hours of driving, we didn't need to charge, and didn't even need to start out at 100%; it barely used half a battery.
