ID.4: Golden to Arapahoe basin: Typical winter vs below zero temperatures
Some nights we will drive up to a ski area to go uphill after the lifts close. Sometimes it is cold. Other times it is... very cold. One day it was around -4°F when we arrived at Arapahoe Basin. How much can it vary? These are two examples of trips in our ID.4 in winter to Arapahoe Basin from Golden. It is always good to have some buffer, especially driving in the mountains when it is hard to estimate how much more/less efficient the trip is compared to normal.
Temperature | Out | Back | Total |
---|---|---|---|
cold | 40% | 13% | 53% |
Very cold | 46% | 21% | 67% |
These drives were done using snow tires (Continental Viking Contact 7) is the standard 19" wheel sizes (staggered as it was a RWD). We also had 4 people in the car and a ski rack with four sets of skis for these drives.
